The purpose of the Ohio State Fair 4-H Avian Bowl Contest is to encourage youth to expand their knowledge of avian facts, and become proficient in poultry management and related subjects. Learning also helps youth with career guidance and promotes the poultry industry by stimulating interest in poultry and other avian species. And competing in Avian Bowl is FUN!
Each team will preferably enter four (4) or five (5) contestants. One team member will be designated as the alternate if five contestants are entered. The team may be selected by any procedure the coach deems appropriate.
Team members must be 4-H members but are not required to enroll in a 4-H Poultry Project to participate.
SENIOR contestants must be at least 14 years of age on January 1, 2026, and not older than 18 years of age as of January 1, 2026.
JUNIOR contestants must be at least 8 years old and in the third grade, or 9 years old regardless of grade, and younger than 14 years of age as of January 1, 2026.

Teams are no longer required to represent their county of origin and may be composed of any eligible Ohio 4-H youth members within the appropriate age division.
Teams consisting of two (2) or three (3) members will be permitted. During registration, these teams will be asked whether they are willing to have additional individuals added to complete their team. These teams will be compiled at the discretion of the event committee.
Individual participants are permitted to register for the contest; however, individuals may not compete independently and will be assigned to a team by the event committee in order to participate. Team assignments will be made at the discretion of the event committee and are subject to team availability. If sufficient team openings are not available, individual registrants will be unable to compete in the contest. Confirmation of team assignments will be provided to participants following the closing of registration.
