4-H Shooting Sports Jr. and Sr. Camp Counselor Application will open in early 2025
We are seeking enthusiastic 4-H members age 14-18 and 4-H Alumi age 19-20 to serve as camp counselors for the 2025 Junior and Senior Shooting Sports Camps!
Date for 2025 Junior Camp: June 13-15 at Canter's Cave 4-H Camp. Counselors arrive the evening of June 12. Â
- Junior Camp counselors must be 14 -18 years old as of January 1, 2025.Â
Date for 2025 Senior Camp: July 13-18 at Canter's Cave 4-H Camp. Counselors arrive the evening of July 12.Â
- Â Senior Camp counselors must be 15 -20 years old by January 1, 2025, but have not turned 21 by the date of the camp.Â
Alumni (19-20 year olds) are encouraged to apply to be camp counselors for Senior Shooting Sports Camp. Alumni counselors must complete a counselor application, attend two online zoom trainings, and have a BCI background check conducted and on file with their local county Extension Office. Approved 4-H volunteers are preferred. Â
Teen counselors (age 14-18) must complete a counselor training program consisting of 20-24 hours of training, through their home county 4-H program. Please contact your local 4-H professional to discuss training opportunities. Shooting Sports Junior Leaders are encouraged to apply, although no shooting experience is necessary. Â
What will I do as a Shooting Sports Camp Counselor?Â
Counselors serve in a leadership role, supervising campers, providing cabin management, planning and participating in all camp activities, leading songs, games, educational programs and more. At Shooting Sports Camp, campers participate in discipline-specific sessions with adult instructors. Counselors must select a shooting sports class assist with during the camp.
Please consider applying to be a camp counselor for the Ohio 4-H Shooting Sports Camps. These camps provide counselors with a great learning experience and we have tons of fun! Counselors also attend camp for FREE, thanks in part to a grant from the Division of Wildlife. Â

Ohio 4-H Junior Shooting Sports Camp 2025Â

  Open to any youth completing grades 3 - 6 in the current school year
- Â Â No previous shooting or archery experience needed
- Â Â Basic shooting & archery disciplines only which include: Archery, Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun, Living History and Hunting & Wildlife.
- All Classes offered are based on a minimum and maximum class size.
- Participants will be asked to select a second and third choice class, in the event their first choice is full or is not offered. Early paid registrations will assist in getting first choices. Â
- Â Â Location:Â Canter's Cave 4-H Camp Inc. 1362 Caves Rd. Jackson, Ohio 45640
- Â Â Camp dates: June 13-15, 2025
- Registration deadline May 16, 2025
- The camp begins on the morning of June 13, 2025 around 9:30 AM
- Recognition Assembly, slideshow and dismissal will be on Sunday afternoon around 3:00 PM

2024 Scholarships for Shooting Sports Camp
Ohio 4-H Shooting Sports Senior and Junior Camp Statewide Scholarship ApplicationÂ
Thank you for your interest in the 2024Â Ohio 4-H Shooting Sports Senior and Junior Camps.Â
Senior camp is open to any youth who has completed grades 7-12 and Junior camp is open to any youth who has completed grades 3-6.
These camps focus on the safe, responsible, ethical use of firearms and archery equipment. Shooting instruction is led by trained, experienced 4-H Shooting Sports Instructors. Campers will select one shooting discipline to focus on while at camp. They will also have opportunities to sample other disciplines along with fun traditional camping activities such as crafts, boating, fishing, hiking and more. All activities are conducted under the direct supervision of our trained instructors and 4-H staff.
A limited number of Statewide Scholarships are available for these camps. These scholarships are need based. Youth who have received scholarships in previous years will not be eligible for a scholarship unless there are an insufficient number of applicants.
Senior Camp scholarships are valued at $350.00 with the total cost of camp $400.00. Scholarship deadline for Senior Camp is June 1, 2024.
Junior Camp scholarships are valued at $200.00 with the total cost of camp $250.00. Scholarship deadline for Junior Camp is May 1, 2024.
The applicant is responsible for the remainder of the camp fee. Scholarships are funded through the Friends of Ohio 4-H Shooting Sports in honor of Ms. Anita Harris, a longtime supporter of the Ohio 4-H Shooting Sports Program and past Camp Manager of Canter's Cave 4-H Camp and Justin Marteney, shooting sports instructor and longtime supporter of Ohio 4-H Shooting Sports.Â
*The Justin Marteney scholarship is open to residents of Fairfield, Hocking, Pickaway and Franklin Counties only. The Anita Harris Scholarship is open to all counties.
In addition to these state scholarships, there may also be county 4-H sponsorships available. For those opportunities, please check with your local OSU Extension Office. Â
Camp fees not covered by scholarships will need to be paid by check or with credit card at time of registration. Please follow the payment instructions on the online registration. Scholarships and camp spots are not confirmed until the remainder of the payment is received. Failure to pay the remainder of the fee by the due date will void the scholarship.
Please be sure to fill out the camp registration in addition to the scholarship application. At the time of registration, you will be given the options to select I have applied for a scholarship. You may then choose to pay the remainder of the fee at that time. If you are not selected for a scholarship the balance of your fee will be due by the camp deadline date.
