CGC Test Item #1. Accepting a Friendly Stranger
This test demonstrates that the 4-H PetPALS team can greet people, and the dog will allow a friendly stranger to approach it and speak to the handler.
The handler stands with the dog sitting by his/her side. The evaluator walks up to the dog and handler, greets the handler, shakes hands, and walks on, ignoring the dog.
The dog must remain in a sitting position during this test, not break position or try to go to the evaluator. The dog cannot show any sign of resentment, shyness or aggression. The handler can talk to the dog, telling it to stay, not jump, etc., however he/she cannot use excessive corrections, such as pulling on the leash or keeping a constant, tight hold on the leash.
