SPP Test 2. Sitting Politely for Petting

This test demonstrates that the animal will allow petting when it is with its handler.

The 4-H member is holding her pet as in Test 1. The evaluator walks up to the team, pets the animal on the head and body, and then walks on. After petting the animal, the evaluator may walk on past the team, circle the team, or back away from the team.

The pet cannot show signs of nervousness, shyness or resentment, and should welcome the petting.

This video clip shows the youth holding a basket with a guinea pig sitting in the basket. The evaluator pets the guinea pig, which shows an interest in being petted.

This video clip shows the youth holding a cat. The evaluator pets the cat, which shows an interest in being petted.

This video clip shows the youth holding a basket with a rabbit sitting in the basket. The evaluator pets the rabbit, which stays calm while being petted.
